About us

Our Mission

We are an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church and our goal here at Cornerstone is to be a Christ-centered, family-oriented ministry. We want everything we do to show Christ to our families and friends. To accomplish this goal, we focus on the preaching and teaching of God’s Word. The Bible is God’s message of salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ. We want you to know Him better and then live to serve him more faithfully.

Since the Bible is relevant to every person of every age, we have designed our ministries to encourage you, your family, and your friends to grow in your walk with Christ.

Compassionate teaching and practical application from God’s Word can strengthen your home and make it everything God wants it to be. Even children learn to minister to others as part of the family of Christ. We desire to assist parents as they guide their children toward spiritual maturity.

History

God’s influence in a new beginning… When God is in something, nothing remains the same.

Prayers have been said, tears have been shed, as the invisible hand of God has lead us to this moment of time. 59 members and friends attended the first prayer service and business meeting under lay pastor Stanley Dulaney on Wednesday, April 19, 1989, at the Darrell Sandison’s home. Worship for the next two Sunday’s also occurred there. At a midweek prayer service and business meeting on May 3, 1989, our church name, Cornerstone Baptist Church, received an 80% majority vote. Jesus is our Cornerstone!

Sunday, May 7, and Sunday, May 14, 1989 the Lord provided a place of Worship at the former Emmanuel Baptist Church located at 3687 N. Euclid Avenue. On May 17, the vote passed to lease the building for one year. A lot of growth occurred during this first year and on July 1, 1990, the congregation celebrated and dedicated their newly purchased building (at our current location) and installed their first pastor, Rev. Stephen M. Etner and his family.

Over the years, the building, the pastors, some of the congregation have changed. But one thing remains the same… Our God! Yesterday, today, and forever.

Jesus is our Cornerstone.
